This campaign against the legalization of software
patents is independent from political organizations and
parties. It has received the financial support of
a small group of software and IT companies.
In this campaign, we don't mince words.
The issue of software patents is critical for our future.
We have to speak out clearly on what is wrong with software
patents, and which structural deficiencies the patent system
needs to work on before it can even think of expanding into
any new areas.
We do respect those we disagree with.
Large corporations have the right to believe that software patents
would enhance their shareholder value. We view that differently.
We think that software patents are bad for the entire economy
and society with the exception of a small group of people who
make money with them. We have no other choice than to debunk all
of the lies that the proponents of software patents spread, yet
we don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings.
We understand the difficulties
that politicians face, still we want them to take
a responsible decision and disallow software
patents in the EU.
Given the huge number of issues that
politicians need to deal with, we realize that some may not have
taken the time yet to fully comprehend the problem of software
patents. We're trying hard to make them understand. It's quite
obvious that some politicians simply pander to their large donators
from big industry. However, a majority in the European Parliament voted
against software patents, and also national parliaments, e.g. in
the Netherlands, Denmark or Germany, voted similarily,
which is an indication that a large number of politicians are honest.
Transparency is one of our most important goals.
Through this website and other activities, we want to make many
people aware of any attempts by politicians and other individuals,
and by some organizations, to mislead them. If any politicians
thought so far that they could get away with lies, then they
will lose the confidence and the support of some voters unless
they become honest.
